Dental Surgery

Surgical procedures carried out in the clinic.

Appointment 90 min

What it is

Dental surgery covers procedures that involve working in the bone or soft tissue rather than only on the tooth itself. Common examples are removing an impacted wisdom tooth, taking out a root left behind under the gum, and preparing a site before an implant.

When you might need it

  • An impacted tooth that has not come through
  • A root or fragment left under the gum
  • Preparation before an implant
  • A lesion or growth that needs removing

What the appointment involves

  1. A review of X-rays and a plan for the procedure
  2. Numbing of the area
  3. The procedure itself
  4. Stitches and aftercare instructions where needed

Afterwards

Swelling and soreness for several days is normal and usually peaks around the second day. Aftercare instructions matter more here than for routine treatment, so follow them closely and ask if anything is unclear.

This page explains the procedure in general terms so you know what you are looking at. It is not a diagnosis and not a treatment plan. What is right for you depends on your own teeth, and that needs an examination.
