General Consultation
The first visit, and the right place to start if you are not sure what you need.
What it is
A general consultation is an examination of your teeth, gums and bite, usually with X-rays so the dentist can see what is happening below the gum line and inside each tooth. It ends with an explanation of what was found and what treatment, if any, is worth considering.
When you might need it
- You have not had a check-up in a year or more
- Something hurts, feels loose, or has changed
- You want a second opinion on a treatment plan
- You do not know what treatment you need
What the appointment involves
- An examination of the teeth, gums and bite
- X-rays where they are needed
- An explanation of what was found
- A plan for any treatment, and what it costs
Afterwards
Treatment is normally booked as a separate appointment, so there is time to think it over. Patients travelling from Arizona often use the consultation to plan the trip they will make for the treatment itself.
This page explains the procedure in general terms so you know what you are looking at. It is not a diagnosis and not a treatment plan. What is right for you depends on your own teeth, and that needs an examination.
